Ground Truth Labs (GTL) is led by Mike Bishop, who brings over three decades of operational, scientific, and engineering experience from his work with the US military, multiple government agencies, and private-sector businesses. His systems-oriented conceptualization, R&D, and commercialization of innovative products and services is driven by a deep desire to understand how things work at their most fundamental levels. Some of his more interesting technical accomplishments include integrating a handheld Raman spectrometer with Android devices for use in homemade explosive (HME) chemical identification; serving as the lead field engineer for the US's first-ever deployment of a directed-energy weapon in a combat environment; and writing coordinate transformations to allow acquisition radar systems to pass target tracks between differing geospatial ellipsoid models. For one of his private-sector projects, Mike was awarded MongoDB's 2016 Data-Driven Business award for a novel technology discussed here.
A lifelong student, over 20 years after Mike finished his B.S. in computer science and math, he earned an M.S. in human performance with a specialization in nutrition. He is also a licensed pilot, extra class ham radio operator (KJ4SMG), the principal inventor on two RF Threat Detection patents (1, 2), and is named on a pending patent related to multi-layered agentic sensor systems and longitudinal threat analyses.
